Skybox Takes Flight

Skybox Event Productions Logo
Do you know what’s great about riding in a hot air balloon? Every moment is magical. It doesn’t matter if you go somewhere high or low, imaginable or unimaginable, because viewing the world from the open sky makes anything feel possible.

Skybox has gone through a lot of changes from the inception of the idea. It had started back when I was in grad school. I had no idea where I wanted to take my business, but I knew I wanted to start something that I could call my own. My original logo and concept was based upon the intention to run a catering business. Skybox has evolved so much further than that.

I worked with Nikki from Akula Kreative to rebrand the company

[see logo above] in the Spring of 2012. The new logo was inspired by my hot air balloon photo shoot, and represents that Skybox is going to keep going up and the sky is the limit.

With Skybox Events, we do our best to make every moment magical, both for ourselves and for the client. I’ve seen plenty of “impossible” happen through Skybox; starting a company, growing into needing an office, writing a book, and so much more. This is why I chose the hot air balloon. Because I want to help others see all their impossible ideas become magical realities.

Skybox is taking the next step in their adventure and a rebrand is in the works again in 2016. A new website will be launched soon! Stay tuned to our social media pages to see the reveal.

Real Weddings – Skybox + Pink Shutter

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Skybox on two weddings in the Los Angeles / Orange County area. Ngoc was part of the bridal party for the first feature, Jannie and Tom. The couple created a sophisticated, cohesive look to their big day using their monogram, a navy, gray and hot pink color palette and a chandelier motif (with a real chandelier hung for the outdoor ceremony!). See more photos on the Skynotes blog.

James & Thao hosted a bold, timeless wedding in red, black and white. Attention was paid to every detail with their monogram appearing on the menus, the floor lights, the photo prints and their photo booth backdrop. A Pink Shutter video booth captured heart felt messages from the couple’s guests. So sweet!

SXSW // Discover the Here and Now

In March, we traveled to Austin, TX to be part of the SXSW festival. The week-long event was full of energy and creativity, and the city is a hipster’s dream. Attendees were invited to panels, trade shows, networking sessions, presentations and performances at the Austin Convention Center and other local businesses. The conference is all about innovation and technology, specifically in the areas of music, film and interactive media.

2016 marks 30 Years of SXSW and it continues to grow each year. We were stoked to be a part of the Launchfest at Maggie Mae’s with three photos booths running simultaneously, each with its own custom backdrop. SXSW is an important piece of our culture and we were there to photograph the occasion, documenting the up and coming, the startups, the inventors.

SXSW brings together people from across the spectrum, even keynote speakers POTUS Barak Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama! The President’s main message was about technology and its role in civic engagement. Do your part to better your community and country? We can get behind that. Michelle shared her message and efforts on the importance of educating females around the world. SXSW landed in the middle of Women’s History Month, so it was the perfect time to spread the word about Let Girls Learn.

Last, but not least, scroll to see some of the shenanigans from our booth setups. All three locations were open concept with custom printed backdrops, photo prints and Animated GIFs. Join the conversation #IgnitionSXSW #SXSW16.

The Perfect View ~ Haiku Gardens

The vendor spotlight falls on Haiku Gardens, a venue and restaurant in Kaneohe, Hawaii. Event Specialist Tamara Suyetsugu has worked with us on two weddings so far and we can’t wait to go back. Haiku Gardens has been awarded the coveted Best of Wedding from theknot 2013 – 2016.

The venue boasts breathtaking views of the natural surroundings, bold architectural elements perfect for photo backdrops and a sense of place that is an integral part of what makes the Island so special. The grounds feature multiple ceremony sites, an outdoor garden and a covered, open-air chapel. Locals and destination weddings alike seek out a place like Haiku Gardens knowing they will have amazing photos and memories to look back on.

Real Wedding ~ David & Daralyn

In February 2016, our Honolulu branch celebrated with this fun-loving couple, a.k.a. Peanut and Goobie. We love the bright colors captured by L’Amour Photography. Picket Fence Florist put together beautiful arrangements that complemented Daralyn’s floral gown and added a modern touch to the day’s details. David and Daralyn’s invites and matching photo booth prints featured hand drawn pineapples. Maile and other tropical flowers completed the look with pops of green, red and orange. The reception was hosted at the on-site restaurant, Haleiwa Joe’s.

Kate Spade Meets Hawaii for Karen and Gavin

Karen and Gavin’s wedding took us to one of our favorite venues, the Halekulani Hotel. We are yet to see a video or photograph taken there that wasn’t breathtaking. Those views… The couple decorated with a Kate Spade theme of black and white and hot pink. Modern, bold accents popped against the gorgeous landscapes of Honolulu.

L-4 Love Weddings had a busy Labor Day weekend, but that didn’t stop them from bringing together some amazing vendors for the perfect best day ever. Passion Roots used fuchsia flowers throughout, including the bride’s bouquet, the cake and the ceremony aisle décor. White linens from The Wedding Linen Co. created a simple backdrop for the reception tables, accented with pink napkins with black and white striped holders. Bliss DJs Hawaii and jam-packed photo booth sessions kept the party going.

Scroll down for some of our favorite #ebimusubi moments caught on film, thanks to Kris Labang Photography, Myra Aji and the world of Instagram.

Making the Season Bright

We do a lot of events on the USC campus, working mainly with APASA, (Asian Pacific American Student Assembly), QuASA (Queer & Ally Student Assembly) and USC Program Board. USC PB is in charge of organizing free student events including the festive PB Holidays.

#PBHolidays was a great way to spend time with friends, to brush up on some serious DIY skills and to celebrate what made 2015 great. Students met up at Tommy the Trojan to create custom cards from their photo booth prints, decorate cookies and make ornaments. Entertainment was provided by a Spotify playlist, compilation courtesy of USC Program Board, and drinks were served up by Urban Espresso.
